Nolan Byrd

Nolan Byrd is a drummer currently based out of New York City.  Originally from Yorba Linda, California, his musical beginnings began with the piano at the age of four and a few years later he discovered his passion and affinity for drumset.  Displaying a natural born talent, Nolan has had success in his early years by being selected to be the drummer in SCSBOA Honor and All-Star Jazz Bands (all-southern California regional audition-based bands) every year in high school, culminating in a performance at the famous Hollywood Bowl opening up the 2010 Playboy Jazz Festival.

In the fall of 2010, Nolan began attending the University of North Texas on a jazz scholarship and had the opportunity to study with master-teacher and mentor, Ed Soph.  During his time at North Texas, Nolan has been a member of dozens of musical groups, ranging from trios to big bands and this versatility has earned him several Downbeat Student Music Awards ( for Large Jazz Ensemble with the Two O'Clock Lab Band and best Blues/Pop/Rock Group with The Alex Hahn Crossing) and the ability to be a top-call drummer in the DFW Metroplex. Most notably Nolan was a member of the internationally acclaimed, six-time Grammy nominated One O'Clock Lab Band and can be heard on the ensemble's most recent release, Lab 2014.

Nolan has performed with notable artists such as Christian McBride, Julian Lage, Jean-Michel Pilc, Greg Osby, Donald Harrison, Billy Harper, Bob Cranshaw, Wayne Bergeron, Eric Marienthal, Andy Martin, Marshall Gilkes, Michael Dease, and Ryan Truesdell in addition to many others.
